The Revolutionary Hakeem (Doctor)
George Habash
By: Adib S. Kawar
The revolutionary Hakeem, the brother, the father, the struggler, the friend, the comrade… George Habash…
How we could morn him while he is eternally with us and among us…
Mourn him while his heritage is still guiding, planning, and executing revolutions and resistance on the moral basis he believed in… Mourn him while he is far and near… Mourn him when he sees us although we don't see him?
We used to know him while in his youth and elderliness, but he remained the Youngman, the loving, the fiery, and the merciful never to abandon a hijacked right and a stolen homeland, and he was a believer in that nothing but combating and armed struggle shall return stolen land and the salvation of its people, by its people and no body but its people.
He used to study, teach, guide and execute with his heart and sprit fully involved in what he was doing, even when seeing him having his food with enthusiasm, we would think that he was doing something to keep alive to work and struggle. I remember, when once I with a group of his comrades and students during a visit to Damascus he invited us all to sleep in his room, but when he returned to his room we were all asleep, and when we woke up he was already awake and gone to resume his work/struggle. He was always racing with time. This is what the man of character and special build up, George Habash. He was always aware that a man's life how long he might live, it shall never be long enough to complete what he planned for doing, would it be possible to finish struggling for a people like us? But unfortunately he left us wile our homeland is still occupied and dispersed, the people displaced and vanquished by their own rulers before the enemy… But he was always sure that the cornerstone he laid along with our countless martyrs, kneaded with their blood, shall be the foundation for a strong structure for the liberation of the land, unity of the nation, removal of artificial borders that were planned and laid by colonialism and Zionism with the collaboration of their puppets, Arab rulers, whom he used to call the ruling cliques of hirelings. He was a believer in that irrespective of time, sufferings and sacrifices, and the numbers of martyrs rivaling on the path of sacrifice his people shall at the end retrieve their lost dignity, freedom and liberate their homeland.
I would not be saying any unknown fact, when we say that he is a devoted Arab nationalist, and there is no priority for him then Arab unity even Palestine, the Palestine for which he lived and died for liberating, and being a part of a whole, what ever is done for it is to be done for any other part of the large Arab homeland, the divided, partitioned and colonized by its rulers before the extorting foreigners, especially today's rulers who say Lebanon first, Jordan first… and Egypt first. He grew up, taught and preached that there is no first, that precedes it or given priority to the total great Arab homeland. He never changed and he was never tempted by the spoils of life.
The revolutionary Hakim's body collapsed under its sickness and the weight of years, and died in his bed, but he fall a martyr who deserves the honoring of martyrs that fell in combat confronting the invading enemy… Who ever follows up with local, Arab and international media racing and competing in announcing his departure shall certainly, and for sure feel the importance and the achievements of the man, but many of them, which are in the service of the enemy were happy and in reeking for the passing away of the man who perturbed Zionism, colonialism and Arab rulers. Zionists went to the extent of not feeling safe even in his sickness. When Al-Hakeem went to France seeking medical treatment Zionists and their collaborators were furious and insisted on the French government to hand the sick Hakeem to them, but due to their cowardliness they were obliged not to comply with the enemy's demand. They were frightened from the reprisal of Al-Hakeem's people; so France's government decided to take him out of his hospital's bed, like when he and his people were uprooted from their homes and land by Zionist terrorist gangs in 1948. France's rulers who are still soaked with their colonialist spirit, did feel the moral responsibility to care for the repercussions of the cowardly deed on his health.
All what the Zionist enemy cared for is to quell the man by any possible or impossible ways or means, and conspiracy as they succeeded in assassinating his comrades starting with Dr. Wadie Haddad, his comrade in arms, colleague in medical studies and practice especially for their poor and needy compatriots. They hijacked planes to lay their blood soaked hands on him, and had they succeeded in doing so he would have spent the rest of his life in their dungeons, but they failed. But they succeeded in assassinating many of their other comrades such as, Dr. Basil Kubaisy, the Iraqi Arab while in Paris in an Arab nationalist mission for the Palestinian cause, who the Zionist Mossad assassinated as usual in the darkness of the night on his way to his hotel, the Palestinian Arab leader, writer, and artist Gassan Kanafani who they assassinated him with his twelve years old niece by bobby trapping his car in one of their usual acts of assassination against Palestinian, and other Arab leaders and fighters in their homeland and the diaspora, to suppress the struggle for the liberation of Palestine. They succeeded in some and failed in others acts of terror. They succeeded in assassinating Al-Hakeem's comrade and successor in the secretarial general of The Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine, leader Abu Ali Mustafa, and kidnapping their successor leader Ahmad Saadat, and others of the resistance leaders in Lebanon, Palestine and other Arab states. Among those leaders and comrades that the enemy failed to assassinate although they left on their bodies the scars of their hate and terror, the non Palestinian Arab, Hani AL-Hindy whose hand was torn of, and Dr. Anis Sayegh who lost some of his fingers and dimmed his eye sight and hearing, but they could not break the pens of these leaders they used to fight with. The Arab pen worries the enemy as much as they are worried and freightened from the Arab gun. The enemy's conspiracies and weapons are still hard at work to suppress our people's resistance, and one of the last of their victims was the Lebanese Arab leader Imad Moughnieh, and hundreds of Palestinian and other Arab fighters and citizens, not to mention the presently going on big massacre/holocaust of Gaza. To prove the failure of their policy of assassinations to suppress the Intifadah/resistance is to record what they said after their success in assassinating martyr Mughnieh, "Mughnieh is dead but there shall be hundreds of Mughnies to succeed and replace him". As such the Zionist enemy's deep conviction is that they entered a road with a dead end, and it would not be too long before they are cornered and finished with. Then enemy have a mighty army, but our fighters have the will and determination to end their struggle and resistance with success. Many a time their leaders declared: "we cannot afford to lose one war", but at the end this is the inevitable fate of colonialism.
The Zionist enemy had always been targeting the revolutionary Hakeem, in the first place because he is a Christian struggler, and fighter against Zionism and colonialism, and the well being of his people. The enemy's aim is to convince the world that this is an enmity not of Zionism against Arabs, but Judaism counter Islam, its aim is to prove its racist lie; as such the enemy concentrated on uprooting Christian Arabs before Moslem Arabs so that to try prove the myth of cultural and religious struggle, claiming that the western culture and civilization are of Judo/Christian heritage confronting what they call "Islamic terrorism" to justify western Islamophobia!!!
Oh Hakeem allow us to shed a hot tear, shed a tear for a struggler of rare qualities and character, although we still feel your presence among us, you left a great big gap that cannot be easily filled and impossible to replace, because of your captivating personality and your noble and upright nature. These are rare characteristics that can be found in one human being, which can not be denied even by your most vehement and archenemy enemies. God bless your soul and give us the strength to try to continue with what you spent your whole life in achieving, and may your name be registered in the noble archives of history, and God bless your soul… You Hakeen of the revolution and struggle for the liberty of Palestine and other Arab lands suffering under occupation, and the unity of our Arab nation… You are George Habash.
